The Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center Foundation is dedicated to supporting the Santa Clarita Valley Committee on Aging/Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center in its mission of enhancing independence, dignity, and quality of life for senior citizens in our community through community outreach and inclusion, fund development, and creation and support of signature fundraisers that benefit the parent organization.

Executive Director

SCV Committee On Aging and SCV Senior Center

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION


The non-profit Santa Clarita Valley Committee On Aging (SCVCOA)’s mission is to enhance the independence, dignity and quality of life of the senior citizen and the community-at-large. It does this through resource management, advocacy and direct services.  The organization currently has an annual budget in excess of three million dollars, a staff of over 60 employees and three hundred volunteers. The organization works in partnership with its sister organization, the non-profit SCV Senior Center Foundation.  Together the two organizations have formed an exploratory committee with plans to launch a major capital campaign for a much needed additional facility. ABOUT THE POSITION


The Executive Director is responsible for overall management of the agency, including, but not limited to, staffing, programs, budgeting, and grant fulfillment. The Executive Director reports to the organization’s Board of Directors.  The salary range for this full-time position is commensurate with experience.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS


A four-year college degree, at minimum

Five or more years management experience in a medium-sized business or organization

Demonstrated success at planning, organizing and implementing programs

Experience overseeing and managing budgets

Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with  a  Board of Directors and community stakeholders

Ability to motivate and manage staff and volunteers

Excellent written and spoken communication skills. Computer literacy mandatory.

Availability to travel within the greater Los Angeles area, including attendance at periodic after hours or weekend functions

Experience in senior citizen-related fields and/or community based services a plus



MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:


PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND ADMINISTRATION

1.Ensures that the organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission, and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress. Utilizes and updates the Strategic Plan as appropriate, but no less than annually.

2.Provides leadership in developing and recommending and/or modifying programs, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors, the Foundation Board and staff, and implements plans and policies authorized by the board.

3.Promotes active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization’s work.

4.Maintains official records and documents, and ensures compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

5.Maintains a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field, and maintains involvement with the Area Agency on Aging and Aging Network.


COMMUNICATIONS

1.Sees that the board is kept fully and succinctly informed on the condition of the organization and the important factors influencing it.

2.Publicizes the activities of the organization, its programs and goals.

3.Establishes sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups, government agencies, volunteers, and clients.

4.Represents the agency programs and point of view of the organization to other agencies, organizations, public officials, the media and the general public.

5.  Maintains community contacts and maintains a positive public image of the agency in community affairs and with funding agencies.



STAFF/VOLUNTEERS

1.Responsible for the recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers.

2.Ensures that job descriptions are developed, that regular performance reviews are done, and that sound human resource practices are in place.

3.Sees that an effective management team, with appropriate provision for succession, is in place. 

4.Encourages the development and implementation of education and personnel training for all staff and volunteers which will enhance skills necessary for their specialized programs and the achievement of the center’s mission.

5.Maintains a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of highly qualified people.


FINANCE/BUDGET

1.  Responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices.

2.Works with the staff, Finance Committee, and the board in preparing a budget; sees that the organization operates within budget guidelines.

3.Ensures that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work.

4.Responsible for timely application and execution of all contracts for services.

5.Jointly, with the president and secretary of the board of directors, conducts official correspondence of the organization, and jointly, with designated officers, executes legal documents.

6.Oversees preparation of grant proposals related to state and federal funding to augment existing programs, and/or develop new programs to fill service gap needs in the community.

7.Assists in fundraising activities, including those initiated by the SCV Senior Center Foundation, as appropriate.
